FAQs

Got questions? You’re in the right place. Here you’ll find answers to some of the things we’re asked most often, from how we work to what you can expect when getting involved. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, don’t worry, just get in touch and we’ll be happy to help.

We’re here to make things clear, accessible, and easy to understand every step of the way.

Helpful Information

Do I need to bring or prepare anything?
  • Yourself and a willingness to learn, work together, and engage in a creative story!
  • You can bring your own set of dice if you want to – but be warned: in our experience it’s rarely easy to stop at buying one set!
  • You might want to bring a notebook to make some notes on the story if you think that will be helpful for you, but this isn’t essential either.
What if I’m new to TTRPGs?

That’s fine! We’ll guide you through the entire process, and our facilitators will play alongside you every step of the way. You don’t need to have any experience, and our sessions are very friendly to new players.

Do I have to roleplay?

No – if you want to, you can stick to describing what your character does and rolling dice! However, we do encourage roleplay-heavy games, so if you feel comfortable it is the best way to experience the sessions.

If you’d prefer not to speak verbally, that’s fine! Many of our participants write things on whiteboards or notepads to show the GM or our facilitators in order to communicate.

What if I need breaks?

You can nip out at any time, or if you feel comfortable just ask us to pause the session! There’s no obligation to remain in the room for the entire session.

What support is available?

At CAT, we recognise that autism is a heterogenous identity with a variety of expressions, and that a “one size fits all” approach to support cannot work with our participants. If you feel you need support to access the sessions, we’d love for you to get in touch so that we can work out a plan to help you!
